Best Gluten-free Desserts & Mithai

At Bombay Sweet Shop, when we embarked on the journey to reimagine Indian mithai, we not only wanted to cater to evolving tastes and preferences but also wanted to make mithai accessible to guests with restrictive diets and that includes our gluten-free offering. So if you are a mithai lover and prefer gluten-free sweet treats, we have enough and more to fulfil your cravings!

One of our most popular gluten-free sweets is the Chocolate Butterscotch Bark. A happy kitchen accident inspired by the Lucknow Kadak Sohan Halwa, our barks are a chocolate butterscotch brittle, topped with sea salt and nuts. Over the last year, we have introduced several varieties of our original Chocolate Butterscotch Barks. For Father’s Day,  we released Chakna Chocolate Barks and for Mother’s Day, we launched Coffee Chocolate Barks. Whether it was the colourful pistachio and flower studded, Phool and Pista Barks for Holi, or the freeze-dried strawberry and rose laced, Strawberry & Rose Barks, all the renditions of our barks are gluten-free sweets. If you are looking for gluten-free sweet treats, check out our classic Chocolate Butterscotch Barks and Strawberry and Rose Barks. Both of which are currently available.

If you love chocolate as much as we do, grab a spoon and dig into Bombay’s 3 Layer Fudge. Inspired by the memories of indulging in fudge on the way back from Lonavala, Bombay’s 3 Layer Fudge is an homage to this decadent confectionery. First, we make a chocolate pedha that forms the base of our Fudge.  We then lather it with a rich chocolate ganache and add a layer of cashew peanut brittle for that nutty, creamy core of the fudge. We then repeat the process one more time and finally seal the fudge with that final pedha layer. It’s gluten free and well best enjoyed guilt free!

If you aren’t much of a chocolate lover and prefer candy, our gluten-free Indian Jujubes are perfect for you. One of the most popular Indian sweet treats is the halwa. That sinful confectionery, filled with nuts, that you just can’t get enough of. Now, there are many varieties of halwa but there’s one that intrigued us more than the others. The Karachi Halwa is that bright, chewy orange halwa filled with slivers of nuts that many of us enjoyed on train journeys, visits to the zoo and even during festivals. We noticed a semblance between the Karachi Halwa and a popular confectionery that kids and adults alike love. So we sprinkled some of the magic of mithai and created bite-sized pieces that look just like everyone’s favourite sour candy and can also be enjoyed by everyone.

If you would rather have gluten-free mithai than gluten-free chocolate and confectionery, we have you covered. At Bombay Sweet Shop, we offer a range of gluten-free laddoos, pedhas and burfis. Our gluten-free Ferrero Rocker laddoo is a happy marriage between a traditional besan laddoo and toasted hazelnuts, inspired by the popular Ferrero Rocher chocolate. It’s a crunchy, gluten-free take on tradition! Our juicy Nolen Gur & Coconut Kheer Kadam is made by stuffing malai pedha with palm-jaggery infused rasgulla and then coating it in desiccated coconut. This popular laddoo is gluten-free and nut-free. The Mighty Motichoor at Bombay Sweet Shop is a melt-in-your-mouth mithai without the gluten and with all the goodness from besan, sugar, saffron, cardamom, and ghee.  If you have been following us for a while, you must have come across the beautiful Malai Pedha and Dulce De Leche Pedha. Guess what, both are gluten-free sweets! The Malai Pedha is stuffed with a blend of emerald pistachio, figs, orange zest and rose water, while the Dulce De Leche pedha is a classic Lal pedha filled with Dulce De Leche filling and peanut brittle. If you grew up eating marzipan, you might recognize the texture of our gluten-free Kaju Marzipan Bon-Bons. It’s a cashew marzipan, layered with dark chocolate and finished with a spray of dark chocolate. A popular South Indian sweet on our menu is the Kaapi Pak. Our gluten-free version is inspired by the melt-in-your-mouth Mysore Pak. We made it bite-sized and lighter, retained the silkiness and added a kick of coffee and sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds. All this talk of mithai and chocolate sure makes us hungry. If you feel overwhelmed by the array of gluten-free sweets available, we don’t blame you! It can be tricky to make a decision. So, to make it easier we offer a variety of assorted boxes, filled with the gluten-free mithai and sweets. Head over to the shop page, to discover more!
