Experience the Best Chocolate Sweets & Chocolate Mithai
There is something truly magical in the power of chocolate! It picks you up on the bad days and feels like the most well-earned reward on the good ones. Just like you, we too enjoy our dose of chocolate sweets and mithai on any given day! While several mithai shops offer chocolate mithais in the form of burfis and pedhas in keeping with the trend, we knew we wanted to use this ingredient differently. Every time our halwai chefs experiment with chocolate, they ensure that the two compliment each other wonderfully allowing the mithai to shine as much as our tempered chocolate!
Currently on the menu, we have quite a few chocolate sweets and mithai for you and your loved ones who eat, sleep and dream of all things chocolate! One of Bombay Sweet Shop’s best sellers, our Chocolate Butterscotch Barks is a brittle that has been inspired by a lesser known Indian treat. When our Chief Mithaiwala was travelling through Lucknow, he tasted a local delicacy called Kadak Sohan Halwa. It is essentially a flat disc, made by cooking together wheat flour, refined flour, sugar and lots of ghee! This thickened mixture is then poured over mixed nuts in a round mould and left to set resulting in a sweet that can easily be fooled for a biscuit! The mouthfeel of a Kadak Sohan Halwa is almost like a buttery caramel and the texture is quite brittle! The ‘brittle’ attribute of this sweet treat was rather unique and stayed in Chef’s mind. He wanted to reinterpret the same texture of the Kadak Sohan Halwa and experimented with Barks! Barks are sheets of chocolate that are usually topped with nuts, dry fruits and candy and are medium thick in nature.
While we wanted to follow the format of a traditional Chocolate Bark, we played around with the thickness quite a few times before we decided on keeping them on the thinner side, thereby lighter and easier to enjoy! Our Chocolate Barks are made by sandwiching a luscious layer of butterscotch caramel in between two layers of chocolate; on top and below. This is then topped with a generous sprinkle of roasted almonds and finished off with sea salt for that slight savoury touch! Plus, dark chocolate and sea salt are a match made in heaven! These huge sheets of barks are then broken into smaller shards and packaged. When you bite into a piece of our Chocolate Barks, the chewy and biscuity texture is what will instantly remind you of the Kadak Sohan Halwa, the nuts add a delightful crunch and the sea salt balances it all out quite beautifully!
Our Chocolate Barks are a part of our Rani Bagh Collection inspired by our neighbourhood botanical garden and zoo, where most of us have spent our fondest picnics. The idea behind the collection was to create bite sized sweet treats while one could enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Rani Bagh. The label of our Barks pouch in fact has elements that we adored and instantly caught our eye from our visits to this institution.
This chocolate sweet is available in a 100 grams pouch for solo cravings, 200 grams pouch to share with your loved ones and a 450 grams box if you have a friend who is an absolute chocolate lover. P.S they’re also gluten free! While our original Barks have now become an eternal favourite, our team at Bombay Sweet Shop has also produced multiple fun iterations based on seasons and festivals. For Valentine’s Day our team decided to smother our Chocolate Barks with freeze dried strawberries and rose petals representing the colour of love! Our guests loved it so much that it made it to our regular menu!
Another one of our signature chocolate sweets and mithai is the Bombay 3 Layer Fudge. This confection is inspired by the decadent chocolate fudge and crunchy peanut chikki that has almost become synonymous with all of our Lonavala getaways. Made with layers of 70% dark chocolate pedha, 55% luscious chocolate ganache and house made peanut cashew brittle, this chocolate mithai is perfect for sharing with a loved one!
And if you have always been a candy bar lover, our Coconut Caramel Patissa Bar will truly become your favourite chocolate sweet! Each one of us has had a preferred layered candy bar growing up. For some it was the nutty Snickers bar, and for others it was Twix. Well, we took our favourite ‘foreign’ chocolate - the Bounty bar - to give you an ‘Indian Candy Bar’ made with Patissa, a mithai similar to the Soan Papdi but slightly thicker in nature. We then recreated the layers with coconut fluff and pepper caramel. Each bar is then hand dipped in chocolate and adorned with gold dust for a nostalgic, yet modern, chocolate mithai experience.
Did you really think one of our mithais wouldn’t get a chocolate makeover? As a part of our Christmas Collection, our Chief Mithaiwala wanted to present the ‘marzipan’, a Christmas staple as a part of our offering! Inspired by the chocolate coated marzipan that he enjoyed during his travels in Europe, his reimagined version at Bombay Sweet Shop was a Kaju Marzipan Bon Bon made with Kaju Katli sandwiched with dark chocolate ganache and sprayed with chocolate. This indulgent chocolate mithai was so widely loved, it made it to our regular menu! This mithai of joy is available as a box of 9 or 18! Who says Christmas cannot be year-long?
