Best Gluten Free Dark Chocolate Barks & Butter Scotch Barks
If love was an edible treat, we think they’d be our Chocolate Butterscotch Barks - a funny kitchen accident that turned out to be Bombay Sweet Shop’s most beloved item and also one of our best sellers! So, whether you’ve been longing for your dose of chocolate or need an instant sugary pick me up, our Chocolate Butterscotch Barks checks all the boxes!
All of our reimagined sweets trace back to a traditional mithai, a flavour or an idea associated with it. When our Chief Mithaiwala was travelling through Lucknow, he tasted a local delicacy called Karak Sohan Halwa. It is essentially a flat disc, made by cooking together wheat flour, refined flour, sugar and lots of ghee! This thickened mixture is then poured over mixed nuts in a round mould and left to set resulting in a sweet that can easily be fooled for a biscuit! The mouthfeel of a Kadak Sohan Halwa is almost like sticky caramel and the texture is quite brittle! The ‘brittle’ like characteristic of this sweet treat was rather unique and stayed in Chef’s mind. He wanted to reinterpret the same texture of the Karak Sohan Halwa and experimented with Chocolate Barks! Barks are sheets of chocolate that are usually topped with nuts, dry fruits and candy and are medium thick in nature.
While we wanted to follow the format of a traditional Chocolate Bark, we played around with the thickness quite a few times before we decided on keeping them on the thinner side, thereby lighter and easier to enjoy! Our Chocolate Barks are made by sandwiching a luscious layer of butterscotch caramel in between two layers of chocolate; on top and below. This is then topped with a generous sprinkle of roasted almonds and finished off with sea salt for that slight savoury touch! Plus, dark chocolate and sea salt are a match made in heaven! These huge sheets of barks are then broken into smaller shards and packaged. When you bite into a piece of our Chocolate Barks, the chewy and biscuity texture is what will remind you of the Kadak Sohan Halwa, the nuts add a delightful crunch and the sea salt balances it all out quite beautifully!
Our Chocolate Barks are a part of our Rani Bagh Collection inspired by our neighborhood botanical garden and zoo, where most of us have spent our fondest picnics. The idea behind the collection was to create bite sized sweet treats while one could enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Rani Bagh. The label of our Barks pouch in fact has elements that we adored and that instantly caught our eye from our visits to this institution.
Our classic Chocolate Barks are available in a 100 grams pouch for solo cravings, 200 grams pouch to share with your loved ones and a 450 grams box if you have a friend who is an absolute chocolate lover. P.S they’re also gluten-free! Isn’t that just the best news ever?
While our original Chocolate Barks have now become a crowd favourite, our team at Bombay Sweet Shop has also produced multiple fun iterations based on seasons and festivals. For Valentine’s Day our team decided to smother our Chocolate Barks with freeze dried strawberries and rose petals resonating the colour of love! Our guests loved it so much that it made it to our regular menu! For the festival of colours ‘Holi’ our classic Chocolate Butterscotch Barks got a vibrant makeover with dried edible flowers, inspired by the symbolic colours of holi, each with a special meaning.
The next Bark change came in time for Mother’s Day. Our mothers stay up late and rise early and always need a kick of coffee! Our team whipped up an exclusive Mother’s Day weekend special Coffee Barks as a way of saying thank you to all our mothers!
Our Barks have now become our playground giving us the chance to exhibit and channel our craziest ideas! We often catch our chefs in action experimenting with a smorgasbord of ingredients that we can’t wait to sample!
So, whether you are looking for that perfect snack while working or need that chocolate mood lifter, our Barks are here for you every step of the way! All you need to do is order them on our website or on thrive!
